Coaching vs Mentoring

Both methods focus on helping others reach goals, share problems, seek solutions, and engender self or professional improvement.

  • Coaching is a formal, personalized approach for individuals to assess specific or problem areas of their careers, their lives and/or their needs. It is a paid position if an external consultant is used and includes specific actions and goals.
  • Mentoring is an unpaid, informal relationship, often by a role model. It may be a one-time meeting or intermittent, depending on needs.
