10 Rules of Management

  1. Be fair, honest, and consistent
  2. Hire with an eye for tomorrow: Plan to grow; hire within the plan.
  3. Delegate by design: Realize you cannot do it all, but give the right task to the right person.
  4. Pay accordingly: Salary at or above industry standard lures the best and brightest - and encourages loyalty.
  5. Reward appropriately: Bonuses encourage people to work hard.
  6. Listen, then lead: For many, listening is a lost art; listen to what people say, than act.
  7. Praise publicly, critique privately: Those who praise in public lead by motivating; those who scorn in public lead by fear.
  8. Avoid complacency: Idle people foment lost opportunities.
  9. Seek camaraderie: The team goes where individuals cannot.
  10. Trust wisely: Give people a chance to fail - and succeed.
